1979 JD Model 2640

SN 2640A333273T

This tractor was assembled June 22-28, 1979, and was shipped June 29, 1979.[1]  My neighbor and friend, Lee Eckhart, purchased it new from Norton County Implement later that summer.  This tractor was built at the Dubuque, IA, plant.  “The 2440’s and 2640’s were the last agricultural tractors made at Dubuque”.[2]  I purchased it from Lee just before his death Feb. 28, 2005.  It had 3139 hours when I acquired it.

Lee was noted for his meticulous care of his tractors and machinery and kept records in the owner’s manual which I have along with its shop manual.  The tractor is all original and looks and runs like new.  It has one cylinder outlet and three point hitch.  I use it as a utility tractor doing the mowing etc.  With 70 h.p. it can do many chores.
