Knitted Slippers

Directions are for size ladies medium.  Changes for size child medium are in parentheses.

 

Materials: 3 (1½ ) ounces worsted weight yarn

# 8 US knitting needles (or size to obtain gauge), yarn needle

 

Gauge: 4 sts and 8 rows equals 1 inch in garter stitch

 


 

Make 2: CO 39 (29 )sts. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 5 (3) inches or 40 (24) rows or 20 (12) ridges.

 

BO 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows

 

Work even (knit every row) on 33 (23) sts for 3 (1½) more inches or 24 (12) rows or 12 (6) ridges or 1 ¼ or (½)  inches less than the desired length.

 

Toe:

Row 1: k1, p1, rep from * to last stitch, k1

Row 2: *p1, k1, rep from * to last stitch, p1

Rep rows 1 and 2

 

Rows 3-7  Rep rows 1 and 2, ending with row 1

Decrease row: knit 2 tog across row, ending with a k1

 

Cut yarn leaving a 18 inch “tail”. Thread needle and slip yarn through stitches on needle. Remove knitting needle, pull yarn tight and fasten. Sew instep to bound off edges. Fold Cast On edge in half to form heal and sew sides together. Weave in ends.
