Size:

Large: (42 inch chest at underarms)

 

Materials:

#9 (5.5mm) Addi needles, 23 inch, #9 circular needle

10 - 2.5 oz skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Worsted Weight yarn – color Wood #232

Cable needle, stitch holders, stitch marker, large eye sewing needle

 

Gauge:

In st st - 7.5 sts, 11 rows equal 2 inches

 

Abbreviations:

RT: Right Twist – slip next 2 sts to holder and hold in back of work, k2, p2 from holder

LT: Left Twist – slip next 2 sts to holder and hold in front of work, p2, k2 from holder

RC: Right Cable – slip next 2 sts to holder and hold in back of work, k2, k2 from holder

LC: Left Cable – slip next 2 sts to holder and hold in front of work, k2, k2 from holder

 

Buttonholes:

Buttonhole in RC: Slip next 2 sts to holder and hold in back of work, k2, k2 tog, from holder, yo

 

Notes:

Vest is worked in one piece to underarms

2 stands of yarn are used

Body

With 2 strands of yarn, CO 184 sts

Row1: (WS) p1, k4,*p4, k6, Rep from * to last 5 sts, k4, p1

Row 2: k the knit sts and p the purl sts as they face you

Row 3: k1, p4, *kfb in the next 4 sts, p6, Rep from * to last 5 sts, p4, k1 (256 sts)

Row 4: k1, p4, Buttonhole in RC, RC, (p6, RC, RC) 8 times, (p6, LC, LC), 9 times, p4, k1

Row 5 and all odd rows: k the knit sts and p the purl sts as they face you except where noted

Row 6: k1, p2, (RT, RC, LT, p2) 9 times, (RT, LC, LT, p2) 9 times, k1

Row 8: k1, p2, *k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p2, Rep from * to last st, k1

Row 10: k1, p2, (k2, p2, RC, p2, k2, p2) 9 times, (k2, p2, LC, p2, k2, p2) 9 times, k1

Work even for approximately 13 ˝ inches, keeping the button and buttonhole bands in established pattern and the body in the st st pattern. End with Row 18 of band pattern.

 

 Divide for Armholes

Row 1: Work 48 sts and put on holder for right front, BO 8 sts, knit across 84 sts, put last 52 sts on holder for left front

Row 2: BO 4, at beg of next row.

Rows 3 and 4: BO 3 at beg of next 2 rows.

Row 5: k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1

Row 6: purl

Rep rows 5 and 6 - 4 more times (64 sts)

Work even until armhole measures 11 inches

 

Shoulder shaping

Rows 1 and 2: BO 6 sts, at beg of next 2 rows

Row 3 and 4: BO 5 sts, at beg of next 2 rows

Rows 5 and 6: BO 8 sts, at beg of next 2 rows

Row 7: BO remaining 30 sts

 

Left Front

Join yarn at armhole and BO 4 sts. Work in pat to end of row

Row 2 and all even rows: Work even as established

Row 3: BO 3 sts at beg of next row

Row 5: k1, ssk, work to end of row

Rep Rows 5 and 6 – 4 more times (40 sts)

 

Shape V-neck

Work armhole for approximately 3 inches, ending with Row 17 of border pattern.

Row 1: K21, k2tog, work in pat to end

Row 2 and all even rows: work even

Row 3: k20, k2tog, work in pat to end

Rep Rows 3 and 4 - 12 times (27 sts)

Continue till armhole measures 11 inches.

 

Shoulder Shaping

Row 1: BO 6 sts at beg of row

Rows 2, 4, 6: Work even

Row 3: BO 5 sts at beg of row

Row 5: BO 6 sts, at beg of row

Row 7: Work in pattern over 10 sts and place on stitch holder

 

Right Front

Join yarn at armhole and beginning on WS, BO 3 sts

Continue as for Left Front, reversing all shaping. Omit all buttonholes after Row 1 of V-neck shaping

 

Finishing

Sew shoulder seams

 

Neck Band

Slip sts from a holder and work in pattern for ˝ the length of the back neck BO. Rep for other holder. Sew into place and weave ends together.

 

Armhole bands

With 2 strands of yarn and circular needles pick up 102 sts around armhole. Place marker on needle. Join.

Rounds 1,3,4,5: *p2, k4, rep from *

Rounds 2,6: *p2, LC, rep from *

Round 7: BO in pattern

 

Buttons (make 8)

With 1 stand of yarn CO 3 sts

Row 1: inc in each sts (6 sts0

Rows 2,4: knit

Row 3: purl

Row 5: p2tog across (3 sts)

Cut yarn leaving an 8 inch length. Thread sewing needle and draw through stitches on needle. Then pick up every other stitch on left side, bottom and right side. Draw tightly into circle. Tie and sew into place.

 

Weave in yarn ends.
